Spokesman: No illegal poker for A-Rod

Published Jul. 1, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

A spokesman for Yankees star Alex Rodriguez says the slugger never played in the illegal celebrity poker games that ensnared such stars as Tobey Maguire.

Star Magazine reported Friday several people saw A-Rod playing at one of the games that were hosted at Hollywood hotels and private residences.

Richard Rubenstein tells The Associated Press that A-Rod ''has not participated in these poker games.''

Rodriguez's name is not mentioned in any court filings in relation to the games.

Major League Baseball spokesman Pat Courtney says the report was the first the commissioner's office heard about the accusation and they will look into the matter.

Rodriguez would not talk about poker before the Yankees played the crosstown Mets on Friday.
