Source: Rangers signing Desmond for one year, $8 million

The Texas Rangers are signing restricted free-agent Ian Desmond to a one-year, $8 million deal, a source tells FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
The deal, which is pending a physical, will cost the Rangers the 19th pick in the draft, but Rosenthal notes they can possibly recoup that by making Desmond a qualifying offer next season.
Desmond, a shortstop, is expected to play left field for the Rangers, but could also be used as a utility man.

Desmond deal will cost #Rangers 19th pick. Can recoup pick by making him QO again next winter. System unlikely to change before CBA expires.

LF will be Desmond's primary position with #Rangers, but he also could bounce around Zobrist-like if injuries occur or others under-perform.

How good is one-year, $8M deal with Desmond for #Rangers? Consider: Mike Pelfrey got two years, $16M from #Tigers.
