Seattle C Moore likely to miss rest of season

Mariners catcher Adam Moore is likely to miss the rest of the 2011 season after knee surgery revealed more extensive damage.

Moore underwent surgery on Tuesday. During the procedure, doctors found an extensive tear in his right knee. Moore is now expected to miss between four and six months, meaning September would be the earliest he could return.

The 26-year-old Moore was injured in the eighth inning of the Mariners' game last Wednesday at Texas while blocking a pitch in the dirt. It was hoped that the tear wasn't significant and Moore might be out only a couple of months.

Moore won the backup catching job out of camp. His roster spot was taken by Chris Gimenez.
