Reds SS Cozart out with illness, Stubbs affected

Published Jun. 12, 2012 7:52 p.m. ET

Reds rookie shortstop Zack Cozart was out of Cincinnati's lineup Tuesday night with an illness that was affecting others as well.

Cozart came down with the illness before the start of a three-game series against the intrastate rival Cleveland Indians. He's been hitting well lately, batting .333 in the last eight games. His seven homers are the most ever by a Reds rookie shortstop.

Cozart started 53 of the first 59 games, appearing in all but one.

Center fielder Drew Stubbs also was sick on Tuesday. Stubbs had missed the last five games with strained muscles in his left side after being hurt on a swing. Stubbs was supposed to take batting practice before Tuesday's game to test the injury, but had to back off when he became sick.
