Rangers righty Lewis pitching no-hitter 8 innings vs A's
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Colby Lewis of the Texas Rangers is pitching a no-hitter through eight innings against the Oakland Athletics.
Lewis was perfect until walking Yonder Alonso on four pitches with two outs in the eighth on Thursday. Marcus Semien followed with a long fly that left fielder Ryan Rua ran down and caught with a jump.
Lewis has thrown 94 pitches and struck out four. The Rangers lead 5-0.
The 36-year-old Lewis also took a perfect game against the A's into the eighth inning last September. Danny Valencia broke up that bid with a leadoff double in the eighth.
On Thursday, Valencia grounded out to begin the eighth.
The A's have not been no-hit since four Baltimore pitchers combined to do it in 1991. That's the longest stretch any big league team has gone without being held hitless.
Kenny Rogers threw the last no-hitter for Texas, a perfect game against the Angels in 1994.
