The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled outfielder Alex Presley and infielder Chase d'Arnaud from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Presley was in the starting lineup Thursday night against St. Louis, playing left field and batting second. He hit .304 (17 for 56) during rehab stints with Indianapolis and Class-A Bradenton.

Presley batted .333 with one homer and nine RBIs in 20 games with the Pirates earlier this season. He went on the disabled list July 23 with a bruised left hand.

To make room on the roster, Pittsburgh optioned infielder Pedro Ciriaco and pitcher Aaron Thompson to Indianapolis. Thompson made his major league debut Wednesday, throwing 4 1-3 innings in a 2-0 win over Milwaukee.
