The Padres right-hander invoked his no-trade clause Thursday to reject a deal that would have landed the Padres four players — left-handers Aaron Poreda and Clayton Richard and two players to be named.

His rejection, first reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, leaves open the possibility that Peavy will be moved to another team before the July 31 non-waiver deadline. His strong preference is to remain in the National League.

Peavy, according to his agent, Barry Axelrod, planned to issue a statement Thursday saying that he was better off staying in San Diego at this time.
