Orioles 2B Schoop goes on 15-day DL with sprained right knee

Published Apr. 18, 2015 3:12 p.m. ET

BOSTON (AP) The Baltimore Orioles put second baseman Jonathan Schoop on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of a sprained right knee.

Schoop said he got hurt when he tripped over first base in Friday night's game at Boston. He said a late, hard slide by Pablo Sandoval wasn't the cause of his injury.

A couple innings after Sandoval made a rough, late slide while trying to break up a double play, Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez was ejected for hitting the Red Sox slugger with a pitch.

The Orioles called up infielder Jimmy Paredes from Double-A Bowie.

In nine games, Schoop hit .259 with three homers and seven RBIs.
