Oakland coliseum to be renamed
Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, home to the Raiders and A's, will be renamed Overstock.com Coliseum under a naming rights agreement expected to be approved Wednesday, the Contra Costa Times reported.
The online retailer will reportedly pay about $1.2 million a year for the next six years to the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum Authority, which runs the 45-year-old stadium.
Because both the Raiders and A's have expressed interest in moving to a new stadium, the deal contains a provision allowing Overstock.com to opt out of the agreement if either team moves.
The leases for the Raiders and A's to play in the Coliseum both expire in 2013. Next year the Coliseum will be the only stadium shared by NFL and MLB teams.
The stadium has been without a corporate name since 2008 when computer security company McAfee decided not to renew a $1.3 million-per-year deal.
The stadium's name could actually change soon, since Salt Lake City-based Overstock has already begun a campaign to rebrand as O.co in an effort to boost international sales.
