Mientkiewicz told he will not make Dodgers

Published Mar. 27, 2010 7:13 p.m. ET

Doug Mientkiewicz was told he will not make the Los Angeles Dodgers' opening day roster, leaving the first baseman's major league future in doubt.

The 35-year-old Mientkiewicz was attempting a comeback from a separated shoulder that required surgery last season and limited him to 18 at-bats for the Dodgers.

Manager Joe Torre said Mientkiewicz expressed an interest in continuing his career. He was excused from camp Saturday so he could weigh his options.

Mientkiewicz's chance of making the roster was dealt a serious blow when Garret Anderson was signed March 3.

A veteran of 12 seasons, Mientkiewicz won a World Series title with the Boston Red Sox in 2004. He has a career .271 average with 66 homers and 405 RBIs.
