Marlins 2B Infante breaks finger
Florida Marlins second baseman Omar Infante broke his right middle finger diving for a grounder in a 7-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night, and it's uncertain how long he will be sidelined.
Infante appeared in pain but stayed in the game after his unsuccessful attempt to field the grounder by Skip Schumaker. The ball deflected off Infante and rolled into right field for a two-run double in the third inning.
Infante left the game in the sixth. He had been on an offensive tear recently, and three hits Thursday hiked his average to .279.
''It's tough,'' manager Jack McKeon said. ''But with broken fingers, you can get back in a short period of time.''
Infante didn't talk to reporters after the game.
The Marlins were already without shortstop Hanley Ramirez, sidelined by a sprained left shoulder.
