Lowe and Treanor added to Rangers roster

Right-hander Mark Lowe and catcher Matt Treanor were added to the Texas Rangers' World Series roster before Wednesday night's opener against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Treanor was on the roster for the first round of the playoffs.

''Bringing Treanor on, he gives us versatility,'' Rangers manager Ron Washington said. I have two catchers that are pretty good, and I like to use them in different ways, and Treanor gives us that versatility.''

Lowe also was added to last year's World Series roster after being inactive during the first two rounds of the postseason.

''If he wouldn't have come down with the hamstring injury, he'd have been on our roster. He's been working behind the scenes, it's been three weeks,'' Washington said.

Texas removed right-handers Yoshinori Tateyama and Koji Uehara.

''That was tough, to call both of those guys in and to tell them that,'' Washington said.
