Jim Rice to Jim Palmer: 'Quit complaining'

Published Apr. 25, 2015 10:43 p.m. ET

Jim Rice thinks Jim Palmer is throwing stones in a glass house.

Palmer, a Hall of Fame pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles, made headlines recently when he criticized Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz after he was ejected for arguing balls and strikes against the O’s.

He continued his tirade against Big Papi before Friday's meeting between the two teams, comparing Ortiz to a puppy that needs to be housebroken.

NESN's Tom Caron said after Boston's 7-5 win that Palmer should be above making comments like that as a Hall of Famer, but Rice, who's also in the Hall, doesn't think that matters.

"Regardless if he's a Hall of Famer or not, who cried more than Jim Palmer? I mean, come on. Let's be honest," Rice said. "Palmer doesn't have anything on me, and I don't have anything on him, but I would tell it like it is.

"You cry just as good as anyone else, so quit complaining, and let the guys go out and play."

Ortiz admitted that he didn't hear Palmer's latest jab before the game, but he still managed to respond with a three-run homer that put the Sox ahead of the Orioles in the fifth inning.
