Father's Day especially meaningful for A's Vogt
The story of Stephen Vogt is a pretty incredible one - going from overlooked minor league catcher to 30-year-old 'breakout star' putting up numbers worthy of an All-Star Game selection.
On Sunday, his journey was made even more special when his father, Randy, took the field with him for the first time in his professional career.
For Father's Day, the Oakland Athletics invited a few players' dads to throw out ceremonial first pitches: David Canha, father of A's outfielder/first baseman Mark Canha, Randy Vogt (Stephen's dad) and Damien Semien, father of shortstop Marcus Semien.
Here's video of their first pitches:
In his postgame media session after the A's wrapped up the victory over the Los Angeles Angels, Vogt touched on how meaningful the day was to him as a player - and as a son:
Vogt's having a pretty special year for himself in 2015, entering play Monday with a slash line of .294/.393/.545 with 13 home runs, 51 RBIs and a WAR of 3.0.
