Astros take Preston's brother Kyle Tucker with fifth pick in Draft
On the same day flashy prospect Carlos Correa made his Major League debut, the Houston Astros further strengthened their future in the MLB Draft.
In addition to selecting LSU shortstop Alex Bregman with the second overall pick, the 'Stros grabbed Kyle Tucker from Plant High School with the fifth selection.
If his name sounds familiar, there's a reason for that: Kyle is the younger brother of Preston Tucker, Astros prospect and current outfielder.
A few weeks ago, both Tucker boys agreed that it'd be fun for the two of them to be drafted by the Astros - and that's exactly what happened.
Said Kyle to Jaylon Thompson of the Houston Chronicle of this development: “Having my brother in the organization will help me out a lot,” Tucker said. “I kind of feel a lot more comfortable. Having the opportunity to play with him at the highest level is real special to me."
General manager Jeff Luhnow likes Kyle's upside as a productive outfielder, and Director of Amateur Scouting Mike Elias said the familiarity issue was a key: “It certainly was a factor knowing what type of player and person his brother was and getting to know their family. Through having him in our organization and John’s (scout, John Martin) relationship with the Tuckers, it certainly gives you a sense of comfort with the people involved.”
There's little doubt that the thought of both Tuckers patrolling the Minute Maid Park outfield is one the family can't wait to see come to fruition.
