Spieth coming off a big year and looking to improve

Published Jan. 5, 2016 7:05 p.m. ET

KAPALUA, Hawaii (AP) Jordan Spieth had an answer for anyone curious about what he will do for an encore.

''Doesn't an encore mean that the show is then over?'' he said Tuesday.

The 22-year-old Texan hopes that will be the case. He has been described as having an old head on a young body, and that much was evident going into the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Spieth says he looked at areas where he can improve. He also realizes the golfing public will measure him against what he did in 2015 instead of whatever he does this year.

Spieth won the Masters and U.S. Open and came as close as anyone to the elusive Grand Slam. He also won the FedEx Cup and set a PGA Tour record for earnings at just over $12 million.
