Reports: Winston accuser to release statement on eve of Heisman presentation

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 10:43 p.m. ET

The woman who accused Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston of sexual assault will release a statement through her attorney, and on the eve of Saturday's Heisman Trophy announcement, multiple outlets are reporting.

The attorney, Patricia Carroll of Dade City, Fla., will read the statement Friday at a 10 a.m. ET news conference in Zephyrhills, Fla., the Tampa Bay Times reported Tuesday.

Last week, Florida State Attorney William Meggs announced there was not enough evidence to pursue charges against Winston, closing the case that began with a complaint filed in December of last year but did not come to light publicly until last month.

According to USA Today, Carroll said that her statement will address Meggs' report on the investigation.

Winston is expected to win the Heisman Trophy at Saturday night's ceremony in New York after leading the Seminoles to an undefeated record, No. 1 ranking and spot in the BCS Championship Game as a redshirt freshman.
