Faton Bauta working towards winning UGA's starting spot
The Georgia Bulldogs quarterback competition failed to resolve itself this spring and the battle for the starting spot continues minus Jacob Park but adds Virginia transfer Greyson Lambert. While many assume the job is Brice Ramsay's to lose, try selling that to redshirt junior Faton Bauta.
While speaking recently to the Athens Banner-Herald, Bauta doesn't sound anything like a man resigned to defeat.
“I’m blessed to be in a position like this where I can compete,” Bauta said. “The eyes are always on the prize. I’m worried about making sure this team is ready.”
With Park's abrupt decision to transfer, Bauta was vaulted into a two-man race with Ramsay this summer and with the knowledge of the system and familiarity with the players, they should have a leg up on Lambert upon his arrival to Athens.
Bauta appears to be confident in his ability to prepare himself this summer for the final competition that will take place during fall camp.
“Everything is through preparation,” Bauta said. “That’s how you build confidence is through your ability, your skill, your poise. It’s all through preparation. If I’m prepared, there’s nothing to worry about. I’m just going to go do what I have to do.”
Bauta was not ready to make any bold predictions on who would win the starting job, only that he was ready to compete for the spot.
“I’m excited,” he said, “about the competition.”
While excitement won't be enough to win the job, but his preparation for the role very well could be.
