Wilson scores 23, Alcorn State beats Alabama State 77-72

LORMAN, Miss. (AP) Tamarcio Wilson scored 23, including three 3-pointers, and Patrick Onwenu had 13 points, a career-high four assists and four blocked shots to help Alcorn State beat Alabama State 77-72 Monday night.

Devonte Hampton added 12 points and Reginald Johnson scored 11 for Alcorn State (8-11, 6-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference), which has won five in a row.

The Braves shot 70.6 percent (12 of 17) from the field, including 6 of 7 from 3-point range, in the second half but committed 10 of their 12 turnovers after the break, allowing Alabama State (6-13, 1-6) to hang around.

The Hornets, who have lost four games in a row and six of their last seven, made just 22 of 55 (40 percent) shots, including 4 of 13 from behind the arc.

Jamel Waters led Alabama State with 22 points. Bobby Brown scored 13 and Torloft Thomas added 12.
