Vermont holds Lyndon St to 4 points in 1st half, wins 79-20

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) Darren Payen had 16 points and nine rebounds, Kurt Steidl and Cam Ward added 10 points apiece, and Vermont throttled Division III Lyndon State 79-20 on Saturday.

Vermont (3-1) led 43-4 at halftime, with Lyndon State missing all 27 of its field goal attempts before the break.

Payen went 7 of 9 from the field, equaling the total number of made field goals for Lyndon State (7 for 58).

The Catamounts started the game on a 19-0 run. Raymond Monroe made two free throws with 12:38 left in the first half to get Lyndon State on the scoreboard. Eric Vargas's two free throws four minutes later were the only other first-half points for the Hornets.

Vermont had 18 assists on 27 field goals at outrebounded the Hornets 55-28.

Vargas, Alexis Ravelo and Robert Rouelle each had four points for Lyndon State. Rouelle tacked on six rebounds.
