Texas-Arlington rolls past Texas State 65-53

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) Jalen Jones scored 17 points and Texas-Arlington cruised to a 65-53 win over Texas State Tuesday night.

The Mavericks doubled up Texas State in the first half, taking a 32-16 lead into the intermission and pushing the advantage to 52-23 with under eight minutes to play.

The Bobcats were down by 20 points with 2:12 left, but had a late rally to outscore UT-Arlington 12-4 to set the final margin. D'Angelo West was fouled on a field-goal attempt behind the 3-point line and converted all three attempts and Austin Evans dunked with seven seconds left.

The Mavericks climbed into a three-way tie for third place in the Sun Belt Conference with Arkansas State and Louisiana-Monroe.

Drew Charles and Erick Neal scored 14 and 10 points, respectively, for UT-Arlington (16-7, 7-5).

Kavin Gilder-Tilbury scored 13 points to lead Texas State (9-12, 3-9).
