Texas-Arlington rolls past South Alabama 92-79

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Kaelon Wilson scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Texas-Arlington to a 92-79 victory over South Alabama on Thursday night to clinch a first-round bye into the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

With the win, the Mavericks (21-9, 12-7 Sun Belt) have matched the second-most wins in program history with a regular season game remaining against Troy on Saturday.

Jalen Jones added 16 points for Texas-Arlington, which had five in double-figure scoring and have won three straight.

Ken Williams scored 22 points, and Nick Stover and Shaq Calhoun had 16 apiece for South Alabama (13-17, 8-11).

The Mavericks shot 9 of 16 from 3-point range to help build a 57-41 halftime lead, and they stretched the lead to 23 points five minutes into the second half and had a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Texas-Arlington shot 50 percent overall and 43 percent on 12-of-28 shooting from long range.
