NORFOLK, Va. (AP) Eric Eaves scored 18 points, Ty Soloman hit a late 3-pointer and two important free throws, and South Carolina State edged Hampton 67-62 on Monday night.

It was tied at 60 with 1:28 left. After a Hampton miss, Soloman drilled a 3-pointer to go up 63-60. Quinton Chievous made a layup to cut it to one, and Hampton fouled three straight times to send Ed Stephens to the line. Stephens made both to make it a three-point game again. Hampton's Brian Darden missed a 3, and Soloman gathered the rebound, was fouled, and made both free throws for the final margin.

Eaves was 8-of-11 shooting for S.C. State (11-11, 6-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Daryll Palmer had 11 points with eight rebounds and Tashombe Riley added 10 and 10. Soloman finished with seven points.

Hampton (11-8, 7-1) was led by Reginald Johnson Jr. with 19 points. Darden had 13 points and Chievous had 12 points and nine boards.
