Samford builds big lead early, cruises over Miles College

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Wyatt Walker scored 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field and Samford had no trouble handing Division II Miles College a 92-73 defeat on Saturday night.

Walker also had a team-best nine rebounds, Demetrius Denzel-Dyson added 16 points for the Bulldogs (6-3), who have won three straight. Christen Cunningham, Triston Chambers, and Josh Sharkey each finished with 11 points. Cunningham had eight assists.

Samford hit 55.6 percent of its field goals and 50 percent of its 3-pointers.

Shaquille Cook led Miles College with 16 points. Chauncey Day and Sheldon Wright added 13.

Samford opened on a 15-4 run, capped by a Terry Brutus dunk, and led 51-27 at halftime. A Cunningham 3 a little over one minute into the second half gave the Bulldogs a 30-point lead and the Golden Bears never seriously threatened the rest of the way.
