Rhoomes leads Fordham to 64-61 win over Rhode Island

NEW YORK (AP) Ryan Rhoomes had a career-high 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Fordham held off Rhode Island for a 64-61 victory on Saturday.

Rhoomes, who had 15 points in the second half, made four free throws down the stretch to secure Fordham's fourth straight win.

Joseph Chartouny added 13 points and dished out nine assists for Fordham (17-12, 8-10) which will play Richmond in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament on Thursday.

Kuran Iverson and Four McGlynn had 16 points apiece for Rhode Island (17-14, 9-9), which has the No. 7 tournament seed.

Rhode Island led throughout most of the second half until Christian Sengfelder drilled a 3-point jumper with 8:05 remaining that led to a 57-51 Fordham lead at the 6:30 mark.

Rhode Island rallied as McGlynn hit a 3 to tie at 61 with 20 seconds left. Antwoine Anderson responded with a 3-point play for the win.
