Pierce leads William & Mary past Div-III Bridgewater, 96-44

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) Justin Pierce scored 17 points in his collegiate debut and led five William & Mary scorers in double figures as the Tribe beat Division III Bridgewater 96-44 for the 13th straight time in the season opener Saturday.

David Cohn converted a layup three minutes in to give the Tribe the lead and the team was off to the races, building a 55-22 advantage by halftime.

Omar Prewitt scored 14 points and William & Mary shot a crisp 53.6 percent from the field (37 of 69), including 10 of 24 from distance.

The Tribe enters 2016-17 after three straight 20-win seasons and opened at home for the second time in the last 11 years. Under head coach Tony Shaver the Tribe is now 13-1 in home openers and 5-0 in season openers at home.

Bryce Boggs scored 14 points to lead the Eagles, but was the only scorer to reach double figures.
