No. 24 Florida signs Stokes to national letter of intent

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 1:32 p.m. ET

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) No. 24 Florida has signed big man Isaiah Stokes, the younger brother of former Tennessee standout Jarnell Stokes, to a national letter of intent.

Stokes joins forwards DeAundrae Ballard and Chase Johnson in coach Mike White's second recruiting class. All three picked the Gators during the early signing period.

The 6-foot-8, 250-pound Stokes chose Florida over Iowa State, Memphis, Tennessee, TCU and others. Stokes transferred from Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, Tennessee, to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, for his senior season. He had scholarship offers to play football at Alabama, Auburn, Notre Dame and Mississippi before deciding to focus on basketball in 2015. He lost about 60 pounds while transferring his body from an offensive lineman to someone who could get up and down the court.
