Miami (Ohio) upsets Ball State 49-47 in MAC 1st round

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) Eric Washington had 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists, and hit two free throws with 3.2 seconds left as eleventh-seeded Miami (Ohio) beat No. 6 seed Ball State 49-47 on Monday night in the first round of the Mid-American Conference tournament.

Ball State's Franko House powered his way inside the paint and made a layup with 32.5 seconds left to tie it at 47-all. Miami called time out with 24.1 seconds left, Washington was fouled on a pull-up jumper and hit the game-winners.

Ball State's long 3-pointer at the buzzer did not hit the rim.

Chris Bryant added 14 points for Miami (13-19), which will face No. 3 seed Buffalo in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Miami led by as many as 10 and never trailed.

House paced Ball State (19-13) with 15 points and seven rebounds. The Cardinals, who entered ranked 36th in the nation in 3-point shooting percentage, were just 3 of 22.
