Kuakumensah, Spieth lead Brown past Cornell 86-80
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Cedric Kuakumensah and Steven Spieth scored 16 apiece to help Brown beat Cornell 86-80 Friday night.
JR Hobbie scored 15, all on 3-pointers, and Tavon Blackmon added 14 points for Brown. Kuakumensah, who made 7 of 10 field-goal attempts, finished with 12 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Kuakumensah and Hobbie hit back-to-back 3s to start an 8-0 run that gave Brown (7-12, 2-3 Ivy League) a 54-43 lead with 14:28 to play.
A pair of free throws by Matt Morgan capped 10-straight points by Cornell (9-10, 2-3) and gave the Big Red their first lead, 58-57, since the first half about five minutes later.
A 3-pointer by Travis Fuller with 7:12 left gave the Bears the lead for good and sparked a 14-4 spurt that made it 78-69 with 2:41 remaining and Brown hit 6 of 6 foul shots in the final 1:03 to seal it.
Morgan and Robert Hatter scored 19 apiece to lead Cornell.
