John Gillon is the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 12:00 p.m. ET

One of the Syracuse basketball team’s senior grad transfers got honored for his tremendous play over the last seven days, John Gillon to be exact.

In Syracuse’s two wins last week, John Gillon averaged 24.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 40 minutes played.

Coming into this week, Gillon was averaging under 10 points per game. Thanks to a historic performance in which the grad student tied for the fourth-most points in program history with 43 points. The point guard finished the game with 9 assists and arguably the most impressive performance of the season.

Thanks to John Gillon, Syracuse’s tournament hopes were still alive. Aside from hitting a near impossible three at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime, John Gillon was a consistent star both offensively and defensively.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, Gillon then played 37 minutes of selfless basketball in part of Syracuse’s 66-62 upset over No. 9 Virginia on Saturday.

In the effort, Gillon recorded a far less impressive stat-line of six points, two rebounds, four assists and two steals, but his clutch shot in the final minute of play once again led Syracuse to another win.

Shooting an efficient 13-19 from the floor (.684). 9-11 from 3, and a perfect 14-14 from the charity stripe, it’s safe to say that John Gillon’s efforts did not go unnoticed, and that he has emerged as one of the leagues most clutch players on both ends of the floor.

Can he continue that momentum tonight on the road against the Clemson Tigers? Well we’ll have to tune in tonight to see if that can materialize.
