Holy Cross hits 11 3s in 55-49 win over Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Robert Champion scored 22 points, Malachi Alexander added 17 points, and Holy Cross beat Albany 55-49 on Wednesday night.

Champion and Alexander each made 4 of 7 3-pointers as the Crusaders hit 11 of 29. Alexander also grabbed seven rebounds but Holy Cross was outrebounded 37-20.

Matt Husek made back-to-back 3-pointers - his only two of the game - to pull Holy Cross to 30-27 early in the second half. The Crusaders went on an 8-0 run - with 3-pointers by Alexander and Champion - to take a 44-40 lead with 3:42 left.

Albany got within two points, but Champion made consecutive 3-pointers for an eight-point lead with 1:10 left.

The Holy Cross (3-4) bench had just two points and the Crusaders were 18-of-49 shooting from the field.

David Nichols led Albany (4-3) with 14 points. Joe Cremo and Greig Stire each added 10 points and Mike Rowley grabbed 10 rebounds.
