Hammink, Peters lead Valparaiso past Coppin State, 78-58

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) Shane Hammink and Alec Peters combined to score 43 points as Valparaiso built a 16-point lead in the first half and cruised to a 78-58 win over Coppin State Monday night - its third win in four nights to open the season.

Joshua Treadwell converted a pair of free throws to cut the Valpo (3-0) lead to 15-10 with 13:25 left, but the Crusaders responded with a 10-0 run to take a 25-10 lead.

Hammink was 8 of 11 shooting from the floor and knocked down 6 of 7 from the line to post 23 points. Peters added eight rebounds to his 20-point effort. Overall, Valparaiso was 28 of 62 shooting from the field (45.2 percent) and hit 5 of 24 from behind the arc.

Terry Harris Jr. scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Coppin State (0-2).
