George Washington G Joe McDonald has surgery on left hip

WASHINGTON -- George Washington sophomore guard Joe McDonald has had surgery on his left hip and is expected to be ready for next season.

McDonald averaged 8.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists for GW, which went 24-9 this season and reached the NCAA tournament for the first time in seven years. The ninth-seeded Colonials lost their opening game 71-66 to eighth-seeded Memphis two weeks ago.

GW announced Friday that McDonald had surgery.
