George Mason holds off Richmond with a 78-74 win
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Jaire Grayer scored 20 points and Otis Livingston II added 18 as George Mason held on to beat Richmond 78-74 Wednesday night.
George Mason (8-14, 2-7 Atlantic 10) led 74-65 with 36 seconds left, but in a 29-second span, Jalen Jenkins committed three fouls-two in four seconds-and the Patriots turned the ball over twice to give Richmond a chance.
T.J. Cline made four free throws and ShawnDre' Jones added two more, and then Cline hit a 3-pointer to pull the Spiders to 76-74 with three seconds left. Livingston made a pair of free throws to seal it for the Patriots.
Cline scored 29 points, shooting 10 for 14 from the field and made 6 for 8 free throws to lead Richmond (11-10, 3-6).
George Mason had a 61-53 lead on the strength of Shevon Thompson's 9-0 run with 4:53 remaining. Thompson finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
