Delaware State's deep bench beats Md-Eastern Shore, 75-71

DOVER, Del. (AP) DeAndre Howard scored 24 points off the Delaware State bench, including a dunk and free throw in the final 19 seconds that allowed the Hornets to hold off rival Maryland-Eastern Shore, 75-71 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contest on Saturday.

The Hornets got 50 of their 75 points from its bench.

Maryland-Eastern Shore built a nine-point lead at intermission, but the Hornets opened the second half with a seven-point run sparked by Devin Morgan Jr.'s 3-pointer. Morgan hit back-to-back 3s to give Delaware State a 55-51 lead with seven minutes left in the game.

Morgan scored 16 points and Kavon Waller added another 15 off the bench for Delaware State (5-20, 3-7).

Dominique Elliott scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to pace the Hawks (8-18, 5-6), with Ryan Andino adding 12 points off the bench and Bakari Copeland contributing 11 points.
