Arkansas-Pine Bluff claws back; beats Alabama St 75-70 in OT

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) Trent Whiting scored 18 points and Arkansas-Pine Bluff clawed back in the second half to beat Alabama State 75-70 in overtime on Monday night.

The Golden Lions (6-19, 4-7 SWAC) trailed 37-27 at halftime and by as many as 18 at one point. But Arkansas Pine-Bluff rallied, outscoring the Hornets by 10 in the second half (39-29) to force an extra period and then 9-4 in OT to seal the win.

JoVaughn Love finished with 14 points and Austin Cox added 13 points and five rebounds for the Golden Lions, who shot 59.1 percent from the field and hit 10 of their 19 3-point attempts.

Tony Armstrong finished with 19 points for Alabama State (8-15, 3-8), to go along with a seven rebounds. Jamel Waters had 14 points and Corvon Butler had 13 for the Hornets, who had their season best two-game win streak snapped.
