American edges Holy Cross 71-70 in overtime

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) Jesse Reed scored 18 points and Delante Jones sank the winning bucket to lift American past Holy Cross for a 71-70 overtime win Sunday.

American (9-18, 7-9 Patriot League) got the winning layup from Jones with two seconds left and Anthony Thompson, who had forced OT with a pair of free throws at the end of regulation, missed a 3-pointer for Holy Cross at the buzzer. Jones got six of his 12 points in overtime.

Marko Vasic also had 12 points for American and Charlie Jones scored 11 points with seven rebounds.

Holy Cross (10-17, 5-11) trailed by 13 in the second half before closing the gap, first with Malachi Alexander's bucket to tie it at 41 and then with Thompson's free throws to knot it at 59 at the end of regulation.

Karl Charles' 17 points led four Crusaders in double figures.
