Recovers well from surgery Kone (leg) is recovering well after successful surgery on a tibia and fibula fracture sustained against Qatar, with the midfielder seen celebrating energetically alongside teammate...
Impact Kone remains sidelined for the rest of the tournament following surgery, with coach Jesse Marsch recognizing the magnitude of what Canada have accomplished without their most gifted midfielder. While he has been unable to contribute on the field, Kone has remained a vocal and upbeat presence around the squad, earning praise from teammates for his attitude since leaving the hospital. The fact the Sassuolo midfielder is already back on his feet is an encouraging sign that he could recover ahead of schedule and be ready to make an impact during the 2026/27 campaign.

Underwent successful surgery Kone (leg) underwent successful surgery early this morning in Vancouver, according to Jeremy Filosa.
Impact Kone suffered what appeared to be a broken leg on Thursday and has since been hospitalised awaiting surgery. The injury rules him out of the remainder of the World Cup and could potentially keep him sidelined for the entire club season as well, with his focus now shifting entirely to recovery.

Awaiting surgery Kone (leg) is at the hospital awaiting surgery, according to manager Jesse Marsch, per James Sharman of Footy Prime.
Impact Kone went down with an apparent broken leg Thursday and will now get further testing done, as the midfielder is already set for surgery. Unfortunately for the midfielder, he will not return to the World Cup due to the injury, potentially now also set to miss the entire league season. More on his status and recovery should come in the next day or two after his surgery and operation are complete.

Suffers likely broken leg Kone was taken off the field in the 56th minute of Thursday's match against Qatar due to an apparent broken leg.
Impact Kone would horrifically leave the field Thursday following a rough tackle from a Qatar defender that led to a red, as Kone appeared to have suffered a broken leg. Unfortunately for the midfielder, this will knock him out of the rest of the World Cup for Team Canada, likely to end his club season with Sassuolo as well. He hopes an MRI and further testing will only show a broken leg and no further damage, as this will already be a difficult injury to recover from, as his teammate Moise Bombito knows. This is also a major blow to Canada as they lose a starting midfielder, with Nathan Saliba now likely to take on a bigger role due to Kone's absence.

Quiet in draw Kone recorded one shot (zero on goal) and two crosses (zero accurate) in Friday's 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Impact Kone didn't have much to do during Friday's draw and he struggled to really get involved in the attack. His lone shot was poor and neither of his crosses proved very threatening. The midfielder is still getting back to full fitness, but even when fully healthy it's unlikely he becomes a major contributor in the attack.

Back in training Thursday Kone (illness) has avoided a major ailment and practiced with the Canadian national team, and he should be available for Friday's clash with Bosnia-Herzegovina, Joseph McBride of T...
Impact Kone missed the previous training session due to a fever but made a quick comeback, suggesting he'll be ready to start in the first World Cup group stage game. The midfielder's presence in the lineup would limit Nathan Saliba and Jonathan Osorio to substitute roles in the short term. Kone recorded six goals over 35 Serie A appearances for Sassuolo in 2025/26, and he has also scored four times across 39 matches at the international level, but he's more likely to be a source of passing numbers in his central spot.
JUNE 11 • ROTOWIRE
Unclear status after early exit Kone (undisclosed) left Canada's training session before it began, raising concerns over a possible injury, OneSoccer's Kristian Jack reports.
Impact Kone had trained in full the previous day and even spoke to the press, making his early departure from the session a concerning sign of a potential injury. The midfielder had started both of Canada's last two friendlies and was expected to feature in the starting XI, with nothing yet confirmed by Canada Soccer leaving his situation unclear. Should an injury be confirmed, Nathan Saliba or Jonathan Osorio could step in to fill his place in midfield
JUNE 10 • ROTOWIRE
Set for starting role with Canada Kone is expected to be a starter for Canada at the 2026 World Cup.
Impact Kone is heading out for the World Cup with Canada this summer and is likely to earn a decent role, with a starting spot expected by most. This comes after a decent season with Sassuolo, recording a solid six goals in 35 appearances (33 starts), although he didn't earn a single assist. The midfielder should see the ball at his feet a decent amount for Canada as they push up the field, leading to numerous opportunities. However, with a 4-4-2 formation typically deployed by Canada, he could see a less advanced role due to two forwards and a winger on each flank.
JUNE 4 • ROTOWIRE
Finds back of net Kone scored one goal to go with two shots (one on goal) and two chances created in Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Genoa.
Impact Kone would score the lone goal of the match for Sassuolo on Sunday, with the midfielder scoring in the 57th minute. This gives the midfielder his second goal in six games, now with six goals on the season. He continues to find starting time in his first season with the club, although he is still in search of his first assist.
APRIL 13 • ROTOWIRE
Starting against Genoa Kone (undisclosed) is in the initial XI to face Genoa on Sunday.
Impact Kone won't face any kind of limitations after exiting a little early in the previous match and is drawing his tenth consecutive start. He has scored twice during such a span, adding six shots (four on target), seven chances created and 10 tackles (seven won).
APRIL 12 • ROTOWIRE
Probable for Genoa fixture Kone (undisclosed) subbed off mostly due to fatigue last week and should at least be an option Sunday, Tuttomercatoweb reported.
Impact Kone didn't require further tests after bowing out early last week and has been spotted in training. He could be able to keep starting. He has posted at least one tackle in the last three contests, totaling five (three won) and posting one key pass, three interceptions and one off-target shot over that span.
APRIL 11 • ROTOWIRE
Forced off early versus Cagliari Kone had one shot (zero on goal), two tackles (two own) and one interception in 69 minutes before leaving Saturday's 2-1 victory over Cagliari due to a muscular injury, Gianluca Di...
Impact Kone put up small numbers on both ends before asking to come out because of some discomfort. He'll be examined before next Sunday's away game versus Genoa. Nemanja Matic or Aster Vranckx would eventually replace him in the lineup if needed.
APRIL 4 • ROTOWIRE
Scores opener Kone scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) in Sunday's 2-1 victory versus Atalanta.
Impact Kone opened the scoring off a corner from Armand Lauriente in Sunday's clash against Atalanta. He added one tackle and four clearances in a solid all-around display. The midfielder remains an undisputed starter, having started 23 of his 24 appearances this season while tallying five goals during that span.
MARCH 3 • ROTOWIRE
Bought out early by Sassuolo Kone has been redeemed by Sassuolo midway through his loan spell from Olympique Marseille.
Impact Kone completes a permanent switch way before the end of the season. He has been a day-one starter and a strong contributor, scoring four times and tallying 14 shots (seven on target), 17 key passes and 17 tackles in 20 appearances.
