Winger's overtime goal lifts Sharks to comeback win over Minnesota Wild NHL: San Jose Sharks’ Yaroslav Askarov makes unexpected start vs. Minnesota Wild on Tuesday

Graf scores in OT as Sharks come back to beat Wild 2-1

Collin Graf scored 2:41 into overtime and the surging San Jose Sharks came back to beat the Minnesota Wild 2-1 on Tuesday night
NOVEMBER 12 • Associated Press
Winning streak at four games Askarov stopped 28 of 29 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 overtime win over the Wild.
Impact Askarov was a late choice to start the game -- earlier in the day, Alex Nedeljkovic was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate. Despite the short notice, Askarov delivered an excellent performance in his fourth straight win. During the streak, he's allowed a total of five goals on 136 shots, with two of the wins coming in overtime. Overall, the 23-year-old is really starting to find a groove at the NHL level. He's up to 5-4-1 with a 3.29 GAA and an .896 save percentage over 10 outings, but he's trending straight up during the Sharks' hot stretch. They've got a couple of favorable road matchups on deck, as they visit the Flames on Thursday and the Kraken on Saturday.

Tending twine Tuesday Askarov will defend the road net against Minnesota on Tuesday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Impact Askarov is coming off a 38-save performance in Saturday's 3-1 win over Florida. He has won three straight outings to improve to 4-4-1 this season while surrendering 32 goals on 287 shots. Minnesota ranks 20th in the league with 2.88 goals per game this campaign.

Takes down defending champs Askarov stopped 37 of 38 shots in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Panthers.
Impact Askarov extended his winning streak to three games with another stellar performance. He's allowed just four goals on 106 shots over those three wins, which is part of a larger 5-0-1 stretch for the Sharks. Askarov has improved to 4-4-1 with a 3.56 GAA and an .888 save percentage over nine outings, though he's clearly trending in the right direction. There may still be some volatility with a young Sharks team, but the 23-year-old netminder getting a taste of success should be beneficial in the big picture. If the Sharks continue alternating goalies, Alex Nedeljkovic will start Tuesday in Minnesota while Askarov would get Thursday's game in Calgary.

Celebrini scores 10th goal as Sharks top Panthers 3-1 for 3rd straight win

Macklin Celebrini scored his 10th goal of the season and the San Jose Sharks defeated the Florida Panthers 3-1

In goal Saturday Askarov will start at home versus the Panthers on Saturday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact Askarov won his last start with 28 saves on 29 shots in a 6-1 victory over the Kraken on Wednesday. He's getting the second half of a back-to-back after Alex Nedeljkovic was in goal for Friday's 2-1 win over the Jets. The Panthers have scored 19 goals over their last six games.

Wins in consecutive starts Askarov stopped 28 of 29 shots in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Kraken.
Impact Askarov has now won three of his last four outings. He's been sharp in his last two victories, stopping 64 of 67 shots to take down the Avalanche and the Kraken. Askarov is up to 3-4-1 with a 3.88 GAA and an .874 save percentage over eight outings this season. Askarov did have one stretch of starting three straight games, but he's gone back to alternating with Alex Nedeljkovic since then. Both goalies should get a turn between the pipes with an upcoming back-to-back set, as the Sharks are hosting the Jets on Friday and the Panthers on Saturday.

Expected to start Wednesday Askarov is set to start on the road against Seattle on Wednesday, per Max Miller of NHL.com.
Impact Askarov has a 2-4-1 record, 4.29 GAA and .862 save percentage in seven outings in 2025-26. While he's had some rough starts, he did stop 36 of 38 shots to earn a 3-2 overtime victory over Colorado in his last start Saturday. Seattle is 6-2-4 and ranks 24th in goals per game with 2.75.

James van Riemsdyk's shootout goal lifts Red Wings over Sharks 3-2

NOVEMBER 3 • Associated Press
Nabs second win Askarov made 37 saves in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over the Avalanche.
Impact Martin Necas slipped the puck past Askarov just 30 seconds into the game, but the 23-year-old netminder kept his composure and technically didn't let another shot beat him on the afternoon -- a goal was awarded to Nathan MacKinnon in the second period after the net behind Askarov was knocked off its pegs. The win was his second of the season, with both of them coming in his last three starts, but through seven outings he still sports a 4.15 GAA and .867 save percentage to go with his 2-4-1 record.

Kurashev scores 1:48 into OT, Sharks beat Avalanche 3-2

Slated starter Saturday Askarov is expected to start at home against Colorado on Saturday, per Max Miller of NHL.com.
Impact Askarov has a 1-4-1 record, 4.69 GAA and .844 save percentage in six outings this year. The 23-year-old has surrendered four or more goals in five of his six appearances. Colorado is 7-1-4 and ranks second in goals per game with 3.75, so this is a very tough assignment for the young goaltender.
NOVEMBER 1 • ROTOWIRE
Not sharp enough Tuesday Askarov allowed four goals on 14 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Kings.
Impact The Sharks dominated possession, but Askarov wasn't good enough on the few chances the Kings accumulated. The four goals came from a pair of fourth-liners and a pair of defensemen, so Askarov wasn't even sunk by the Kings' best players. He continues to offer subpar goaltending, though this is part of the growing pains as the Sharks try to move from rebuilding to at least being competitive. On the year, Askarov is 1-4-1 with a 4.69 GAA and an .844 save percentage. The Sharks host the Devils on Thursday.
OCTOBER 29 • ROTOWIRE
Leaves ice first Askarov was the first goalie off Tuesday, Max Miller of NHL.com reports, indicating he'll be in goal at home versus the Kings.
Impact Askarov will make his third straight appearance between the pipes for the Sharks after having split the opening seven games with Alex Nedeljkovic. With a 1-3-1 record and 4.80 GAA, it's a little surprising Askarov is continuing to get a heavier workload. A back-to-back versus the Avs and Wings on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, should give both netminders some work in the coming days.
OCTOBER 28 • ROTOWIRE
Earns win despite subpar showing Askarov stopped 28 of 33 shots in Sunday's overtime win over the Wild.
Impact Askarov allowed five or more goals for the third time across five starts this season. The 23-year-old netminder, who started consecutive games for the first time Friday and Sunday, might return to the bench ahead of Tuesday's game against the Kings since the Sharks have been rotating netminders regularly so far this season. Askarov hasn't inspired a ton of confidence between the pipes, either -- he's gone 1-3-1 with a 4.80 GAA and an .855 save percentage in his five starts so far.

Macklin Celebrini scores in overtime to lift Sharks past Wild, 6-5

Macklin Celebrini scored an unassisted goal at 3:47 of overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 6-5 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday
OCTOBER 27 • Associated Press
Starting Sunday in Minny Askarov will start Sunday's game against the Wild, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports Sunday.
Impact Askarov will start consecutive games for the first time this season after participating in a true 50-50 split with Alex Nedeljkovic to begin the season. The 23-year-old is coming off of a strong performance against the red-hot Devils, stopping 26 of 28 shots he faced in the loss. He will face a Wild team that is really struggling offensively this season, particularly at even strength. Minnesota has just 10 goals at 5-on-5 this season, tied for the fewest in the league.
OCTOBER 26 • ROTOWIRE
Gives up two goals Askarov stopped 26 of 28 shots in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Devils. The third goal was an empty-netter with 47 seconds left in the game.
Impact Askarov was beaten twice on the power play, with both goals being scored by Dougie Hamilton, but he was solid the rest of the way. By the time the Devils added a third goal, the 23-year-old netminder was already on the bench with the Sharks pushing for a late equalizer. The Sharks have been rotating their goalies this season and Askarov hasn't been a very reliable option. In four starts, he's gone 0-3-1 with a 4.81 GAA and a poor .857 save percentage.
