Rasmus Sandin - Two helpers in Tuesday's win Sandin collected two assists, one on the power play, in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Penguins.
Impact All of Washington's scoring came in the first period, as the team grabbed a 4-0 lead that it nearly squandered. Sandin had just one point, a helper, through the first 11 games in December, but he's found a bit of a groove with four assists in the last four contests. The 23-year-old blueliner is still looking for his first goal of the season however, and he's managed a paltry 10 points in 35 games.
JANUARY 3, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Darcy Kuemper - Collects ninth win Kuemper stopped 32 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Penguins.
Impact The Capitals looked like they'd run away with the game in the first period, jumping out to a 4-0 lead, but the Pens clawed their way back and Kuemper needed to be sharp in the third, turning aside all 13 shots he faced as Pittsburgh fought for an equalizer. It was a solid bounce-back performance from the 33-year-old netminder after he's lost two straight starts and coughed up five goals in each. On the season, Kuemper is 9-8-2 with a disappointing 3.15 GAA and .893 save percentage, but if Charlie Lindgren (upper body) ends up being sidelined for a significant length of time, he could see a heavy workload.

Martin Fehervary - Ready to rock Fehervary (upper body) will be back in the lineup Tuesday against the Penguins, per Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post.
Impact Fehervary will return to action following a one-game absence. He is projected to play alongside John Carlson on the top pairing. Fehervary has compiled five points, 30 shots on goal, 48 blocked shots and 62 hits over 28 games this season. He will replace Trevor van Riemsdyk in the lineup Tuesday.

Darcy Kuemper - Starting in Pittsburgh Kuemper will defend the road net versus Pittsburgh on Tuesday, according to Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post.
Impact Kuemper has allowed 10 goals on 60 shots in two straight losses going into Tuesday's contest. Prior to that, he stopped 90 of 95 shots during a three-game winning streak. Through 18 games this campaign, he has an 8-8-2 record with a 3.16 GAA and an .892 save percentage. The Penguins rank 21st in the league this campaign with 3.00 goals per contest.

Charlie Lindgren - Out for next two games Lindgren (upper body) will sit out Tuesday's contest against Pittsburgh and Wednesday's game versus New Jersey, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Lindgren hasn't been ruled out yet for Friday's matchup against Carolina. He didn't practice Monday after missing Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to Nashville. Lindgren, who was injured in Friday's 5-1 defeat versus the Islanders, has posted a 7-3-3 record this season with a 2.27 GAA and a .928 save percentage through 15 appearances. During his absence, Darcy Kuemper and Hunter Shepard will handle the goaltending duties.
JANUARY 1, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Martin Fehervary - Practices Monday Fehervary (upper body) practiced on the top pairing with John Carlson during Monday's practice, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
Impact Fehervary appears to be nearing a return after missing Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Predators. The 24-year-old is a reliable stay-at-home defender in Washington's top four, but with only three points in his last 16 games, Fehervary isn't much of a fantasy asset in standard formats.

Trevor van Riemsdyk - Dishes assist Saturday Van Riemsdyk posted an assist and blocked three shots in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Predators.
Impact Van Riemsdyk snapped a 10-game point drought with the helper on Beck Malenstyn's first-period marker. The 32-year-old van Riemsdyk has been a steady part of the Capitals' defense this season, most often serving in a bottom-four role. Despite his regular role, he's been a non-factor on offense with six assists and 34 shots on net over 30 contests. He's steadier in his own zone, adding 45 blocked shots with a minus-6 rating on a team that's not generating many goals throughout the roster.
DECEMBER 31, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Nic Dowd - Offers assist in shootout loss Dowd provided an assist and fired two shots on goal in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Predators.
Impact Dowd set up a Beck Malenstyn tally in the first period. The assist ended an eight-game point drought for Dowd. The 33-year-old has remained a fixture on the Capitals' fourth line with the ability to move up in the lineup as necessary for key defensive moments. He's produced six points, 26 shots on net, 32 blocked shots, 24 hits and a plus-5 rating through 25 appearances. His on-ice value is higher than his fantasy usefulness, as he simply doesn't score enough to be helpful in the virtual game.
DECEMBER 31, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Aliaksei Protas - Manages helper Protas recorded an assist, three shots on goal and two hits in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Predators.
Impact Protas helped out on Alex Ovechkin's goal in the second period. This was Protas' fifth helper over the last six games, and he ends December with nine points across 14 outings. The 22-year-old has stepped up into a middle-six role in what's looking like a bit of a breakout season. He's at three goals, 15 assists, 42 shots on net and a plus-3 rating through 33 contests overall while finding chemistry with Anthony Mantha and Connor McMichael on the second line.
DECEMBER 31, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Dylan Strome - Supplies helper Saturday Strome notched an assist and blocked three shots in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Predators.
Impact Strome set up an Alex Ovechkin goal just after a power play in the second period. The helper snapped a three-game slump for Strome, though the Capitals scored just three times over that span as they continue to put up much offense. The 26-year-old center has been one of their more productive forwards with 21 points (seven on the power play), 75 shots on net, 21 blocked shots and a minus-5 rating through 34 appearances, mainly in a top-line role. Strome could be shuffled out of that position if head coach Spencer Carbery makes drastic changes to the forward lines.
DECEMBER 31, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Beck Malenstyn - Finds twine Saturday Malenstyn scored a goal on three shots and blocked two shots in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Predators.
Impact Malenstyn got the Capitals on the board midway through the first period after they fell in an early 2-0 hole. The goal snapped his eight-game point drought. The 25-year-old forward has remained in a fourth-line role for much of the season, but his ice time has been more in line with a middle-six forward. He's produced three goals, four helpers, 38 shots on net, 79 hits, 43 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating over 34 appearances.
DECEMBER 31, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Hunter Shepard - Loses in shootout Shepard allowed two goals on 36 shots in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Predators.
Impact Shepard made plenty of strong saves in regulation and overtime, but Gustav Nyquist and Ryan O'Reilly put pucks past him in the shootout. The 28-year-old Shepard has not been defeated in regulation this season, going 2-0-1 with seven goals allowed on 95 shots across his three appearances. He'll likely serve as Darcy Kuemper's backup for as long as Charlie Lindgren (upper body) is out.
