Timo Meier - Facing short-term absence Meier (undisclosed) will be out in the short term, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Impact Meier will be evaluated when the Devils get back home. They play Saturday versus the Rangers, but it doesn't seem like the winger will be available for that contest. After that, the Devils' next game is Wednesday in Detroit.

Impact Meier was banged up during Tuesday's 6-3 loss to Winnipeg. He has five goals and 11 points in 14 contests this year. Max Willman might draw into the lineup for the first time since Nov. 7.

Vitek Vanecek - Expected to start Thursday Vanecek is expected to get the road start versus Pittsburgh on Thursday. according to Penguins play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff.

Impact Vanecek got the night off Tuesday after starting seven of the previous eight games. Akira Schmid gave up five goals on 30 shots in a 6-3 loss to the Jets, so it's back to Vanecek on Thursday. Vanecek is 6-3-0 with a 3.45 GAA and .887 save percentage as the Devils are having big problems keeping the puck out of the net. The Penguins are averaging 3.64 goals per game this season.

Jack Hughes - Not ready to play Hughes (shoulder) isn't ready to return Thursday against Pittsburgh, according to Erika Wachter Barnes of the NHL Network.

Impact Hughes will miss his fifth consecutive game. He was off to a fantastic start before getting hurt, providing five goals and 20 points through 10 contests. Once he's healthy, Hughes will resume his role on the top line and first power-play unit. His next chance to play will be Saturday versus the Rangers.

The bottom-six forward has added 15 shots on net, 25 hits, 14 blocked shots, 12 PIM and a plus-1 rating over 13 appearances.
