Sam Montembeault - Set to start against Detroit
Montembeault will defend the road crease against the Red Wings on Thursday, Stu Cowan of The Montreal Gazette reports.
Impact
After ending December with wins in five of his final six starts of the month, Montembeault has been inconsistent to begin the calendar year, going 3-2-1 with a 3.34 GAA and .886 save percentage over six appearances. He's been in more of a timeshare than usual lately since Jakub Dobes has begun his NHL career with five consecutive victories, but Montembeault will tend the twine for the third time in the Canadiens' last four games Thursday.

ROTOWIRE
Patrik Laine - Registers two helpers
Laine picked up a pair of assists in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Tampa Bay.
Impact
Laine continues to roll since his four-game absence to start January, tallying four goals and three assists, including three power-play points, in his previous six outings. While injuries have limited his season-long productivity, he almost certainly won't get to the 50-point threshold, Laine is at nearly a point-per-game pace and should offer top-end fantasy upside the rest of the way.

ROTOWIRE
Owen Beck - Sent to AHL
Beck was loaned to AHL Laval on Wednesday.
Impact
Beck was called up by the Canadiens on Sunday, and he was held without a point with two hits while averaging 7:35 of ice time over two appearances with the NHL club. He'll head back to the minors a few days later, and he should have more opportunities to develop in the AHL.

ROTOWIRE
Juraj Slafkovsky - Scores goal Wednesday
Slafkovsky scored a goal on four shots in a 3-2 victory over the Lightning on Wednesday.
Impact
Slafkovsky has goals in back-to-back for the first time this season while also bending the twine in three of the last four. Despite the recent run of form, the 20-year-old winger appears to be firmly cemented in a sophomore slump and will be hard-pressed to reach the 20-goal mark like he did last year.

ROTOWIRE
Alex Newhook - Bends twine versus Lightning
Newhook scored a goal on one shot in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay.
Impact
Newhook has been finding his offensive stride of late, recording four points in his last five outings while averaging 15:58 of ice time. Despite averaging 1:47 of ice time with the man advantage this season, the 23-year-old has only managed one power-play point this year. Newhook has reached the 30-point threshold in each of his four NHL campaigns but could be in danger of missing that threshold in 2024-25.

ROTOWIRE
Jake Evans - Scores game-winning goal
Evans scored the game-winning goal on two shots in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Tampa Bay.
Impact
With his tally, Evans was able to bring his 10-game goal drought to a close. Prior to his slump, the 28-year-old forward had scored in five straight games, so perhaps fantasy players can expect more to come with Evans back on track. Still, the Toronto native remains stuck in a bottom-six role without power-play opportunities, which may limit his fantasy upside.

ROTOWIRE
Sam Montembeault - Shuts down Bolts
Montembeault stopped 33 of 35 shots on net in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over the Lightning.
Impact
Montembeault has been very inconsistent over his last five outings, going 3-1-1 with a 3.17 GAA while giving up four or more goals twice during that stretch. With youngster Jakub Dobes currently riding a five-game winning streak, Montembeault will have to continue to stay on top of his game in order to avoid being dropped from the starting role.
