Impact Markstrom will get the nod in the Devils' second game, and he'll be looking to bounce back from a tough opener. He allowed five goals on 32 shots in a 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes on Thursday. The 35-year-old still has quite a bit of a leash as the Devils' top goalie, but if his struggles persist in the long run, Jake Allen could get more time.

Impact Markstrom and his club were in a tightly-contested game late in the final frame, but the Hurricanes exploded for three goals in the final three minutes. This was far from his best performance, though better days should be coming for Markstrom, as the Devils will likely give him plenty of offensive support throughout the season. Look for the Swedish netminder to get the nod again Saturday in Tampa Bay.

Expected to start Thursday Markstrom is slated to patrol the visiting crease on Opening Night in Carolina on Thursday, according to Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site.
Impact Markstrom rebounded from a tough couple of seasons to post a 26-16-6 record with four shutouts, a 2.50 GAA and a .900 save percentage across 49 outings in 2024025. He'll face a Carolina side that is expected to be at or near the top of the Metropolitan Division title this season.

Impact Markstrom put up 26 wins in 49 regular-season games with the Devils last season, his eighth straight year reaching the 20-win threshold. Still, during that eight-year stretch, the Swedish backstop has only notched 30 victories once, back in 2021-22 when he was with the Flames. With Jake Allen in the fold, Markstrom is unlikely to be asked to play 60 games a year, which could prevent him from putting up the big win totals like Connor Hellebuyck or Andrei Vasilevskiy.
