Jacob Markstrom - NHL News & Rumors

Falls to Minnesota Markstrom turned aside 25 of 28 shots in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Wild, with Minnesota's final goal getting scored into an empty net.

Impact The veteran netminder had no answer for Kirill Kaprizov, who scored three of the Wild's four goals and assisted on the fourth. It's Markstrom's first regulation loss in his return to south Florida, and through four starts to begin the season he's gone 2-1-1 with a .916 save percentage.

Facing Wild Markstrom will patrol the home crease against Minnesota on Saturday, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.

Impact In his previous three starts this season, Markstrom has allowed only four goals on 55 shots and has posted a 2-0-1 record. He is coming off a 19-save effort in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Kings. Minnesota (2-1-1) has scored 11 goals in four games this campaign.

Locks down win Markstrom stopped 19 of 20 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Kings.

Impact The Kings struck first on Alex Laferriere's goal late in the first period, but Markstrom locked things down after that to help the Panthers pull off a comeback win. Markstrom is now 2-0-1 with four goals allowed on just 56 shots over three games this season. If the Panthers' defense continues to be this sharp, he won't have to do a lot to pile up wins throughout the years, though the absence of Aleksander Barkov (knee) hurts the team's overall structure. The Panthers are heading home to face the Wild on Saturday in their next game.

Impact Markstrom has stopped 33 of 36 shots en route to a 1-0-1 start to the 2026-27 campaign. He is coming off an 18-save effort in Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to Anaheim. The Kings (0-1-1) have scored eight goals in two games this campaign.

Handed overtime loss Markstrom stopped 18 of 21 shots in Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Ducks.

Impact Anaheim's power play was the main problem, as Cutter Gauthier scored twice and Mikael Granlund tallied in overtime. Markstrom didn't face a lot of volume otherwise. He's allowed three goals on 36 shots over two games this season, so the Panthers' defensive structure has been effective to shelter the goalie. Florida wraps up its season-opening road trip against the Kings on Tuesday.

Dazzles in return to Florida crease Markstrom stopped all 15 shots he faced in Tuesday's 1-0 overtime win over the Hurricanes.

Impact Making his return to a Panthers team he broke into the NHL with back in 2010-11, Markstrom didn't face a lot of pucks but came up big when he needed to, eventually getting rewarded for his efforts when Gustav Forsling blasted home a shot from the blue line with less than five seconds left in OT. Markstrom recorded only one shutout all of last season with New Jersey, but his second stint in Florida is off to a dazzling start. The 36-year-old netminder is used to heavy workloads, but it's not yet clear if he'll be right back in the crease Thursday in San Jose, or if he'll cede duties to Akira Schmid.

Defending crease Tuesday Markstrom will guard the road goal against Carolina on Tuesday, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.

Impact Markstrom posted a 23-19-1 record with one shutout, a 3.07 GAA and an .883 save percentage in 44 regular-season appearances for New Jersey in 2025-26. He has plenty of bounce-back appeal in the 2026-27 campaign after the Devils dealt him to the Panthers in the offseason.

Starting again Tuesday Markstrom will protect the road goal in Tuesday's preseason game versus the Hurricanes, Rob Darragh of the Panthers' official site reports.

Impact Markstrom started Sunday and earned a win over the Hurricanes, stopping 21 of 24 shots. As a veteran player limited to two games of preseason action, this will presumably be Markstrom's last appearance until the regular season, which opens with another matchup against Carolina on Sept. 29.

SEPTEMBER 22 • ROTOWIRE

Picks up win in preseason action Markstrom stopped 21 of 24 shotds in Sunday's 6-3 exhibition win over the Hurricanes.

Impact It was Markstrom's first time wearing a Florida sweater since the 2013-14 season -- he was drafted by the organization in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. While Markstrom will more than likely begin the year as the Panthers' top option between the pipes, he could be challenged for starts by Akira Schmid if the former struggles out of the gate. Florida is expected to rebound this year after missing the postseason in 2025-26, so Markstrom should be able to pick up his fair share of wins in 2026-27.

Tending twine Sunday Markstrom will protect the home net in Sunday's preseason matchup against Carolina, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.

Impact Markstrom posted a 23-19-1 record with one shutout, a 3.07 GAA and an .883 save percentage in 44 regular-season appearances with New Jersey in 2025-26. After being acquired by Florida on June 30, the 36-year-old netminder has plenty of bounce-back potential as the Panthers' projected No. 1 option for the 2026-27 campaign.
