Impact The fact that Moore suggested Pollard would be used "vertically" is a strong sign he'll be running something more than typical RB routes. Dallas' wide receiver depth will be tested early in the season with Michael Gallup (knee) and James Washington (foot) both sidelined, but signs continue to build that Pollard will be one of the players relied upon to take on some of those targets. The 25-year-old set career highs with 39 catches on 46 targets for 337 receiving yards last season, but he could blow those numbers out of the water if he sees consistent snaps in the slot and split out wide.

Based on their production over the last three seasons, there's an argument to be made that Pollard should be cutting into Elliott's workload, but the latter did play through a knee injury last year that may have hampered his efficiency, and he has one season remaining on his current contract before the Cowboys could realistically part ways with him. While Pollard's career-high 719 rushing yards and 5.5 yards per carry in 2021 were impressive, any further gains on his part this year may have to come as a receiver.

Expects more snaps Pollard has been taking snaps in the slot at training camp and says he anticipates more playing time this year, The Dallas Morning News reports.

Impact Dual-halfback formations tend to be more summer talking points than fall reality, but it makes sense for a Dallas team with shaky depth at wide receiver and tight end. The Cowboys traded Amari Cooper in the offseason and expect Michael Gallup (ACL) to miss time in September, leaving James Washington and rookie Jalen Tolbert among the favorites to pick up snaps. Given that context, formations with both Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott on the field sound better, especially compared to last season when it often would've mean taking a healthy Gallup off the field. It's also possible Pollard subs in for Elliott more often as the lone back, though Elliott says he feels better this year after playing through a PCL injury last season.

"It just makes things a little easier, being out wide, catching the ball, not having to worry about the first line of defense, then the linebackers, then the safeties. Once you're out wide you really just have one guy to beat, and then it's off to the races from there," Pollard said. "I definitely feel like any opportunity I'm given, I'm going to do my best to make the most of it. The more I get, the more I can benefit the team." Even if Ezekiel Elliott stays healthy this season, there could be more touches available for Pollard as he helps round out a depleted receiving corps that lost Amari Cooper in the offseason and likely will be without Michael Gallup (knee) for the early part of the schedule.
