Agrees to three-year extension
The Chargers and Williams have agreed on a three-year, $60 million deal, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact
Per the report, Williams' new contract includes $40 million guaranteed. The 27-year-old is coming off a 2021 season in which he logged 76 catches on 129 targets for 1,146 yards and nine TDs in 16 games. Now that he's back in the fold, Williams will reprise his starting role opposite Keenan Allen, giving the Chargers and QB Justin Herbert a quality 1-2 punch at wide receiver.

Incredible fourth QT comes up short
Williams registered nine receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown across 17 targets in Sunday's 35-32 overtime loss to the Raiders.
Impact
It's a bit ironic that Williams tallied his most receiving yards since Week 5 in the team's finale especially considering the big-bodied target appeared to be one of the league's breakout starts through the first month of the campaign only to completely tail off as the season progressed. While the Raiders would ultimately come away with the playoff-securing win, Williams' 12-yard reception on the final play of regulation put the game into extras, and his 47-yard reception during the Chargers' lone overtime possession was paramount in setting up the game-tying field goal. While the 2017 first-round pick slumped considerably following his scintillating start, Williams easily put together his most complete year as a professional, recording season highs in receptions (76), targets (129), receiving yards (1,146) and receptions of 40-plus yards (nine). That should net Williams, an unrestricted free agent this offseason, a pretty payday from someone -- with the Chargers and their sixth-highest-available cap space likely first in line.

Late touchdown salvages fantasy day
Williams (illness) caught three of his four targets for 63 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-13 win over the Broncos.
Impact
Williams was kept in check for most of the afternoon until his beautiful diving 45-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter completely put the game out of reach. One week after missing the devastating Week 16 loss to the Texans, Williams immediately re-asserted himself as a dangerous deep threat. While Sunday's touchdown marked just the second score for Williams since mid-October, he'll likely be leaned on heavily as the Chargers face off against the Raiders next week in a win-and-you're-in situation.

Back from COVID list
Williams (illness) has been activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Impact
Williams and fellow wideout Jalen Guyton both missed Los Angeles' Week 16 loss to the Texans, but both players are off the COVID list, which sets the stage for the Chargers to have their nucleus of key skill players available for Sunday's game against the Broncos. To date, Williams has logged a fantasy-worthy 64 catches (on 108 targets) for 964 yards and seven TDs through 14 contests.

Impact
Gilbert Manzano of the Orange Register previously relayed that Williams, as an unvaccinated player, was in line to miss the contest. However, under the new protocols, the wideout has a chance to play in Week 17. Until Williams and Jalen Guyton clear the current protocols though, the Chargers' top available wideouts are Keenan Allen, Joshua Palmer and Jason Moore.

Not eligible for Week 17
Chargers head coach Brandon Staley confirmed Monday that Williams, who is on the reserve/COVID-19 list, won't be eligible to play Week 17 against the Broncos, Daniel Popper of The...
Impact
Los Angeles placed Williams on the list Saturday and ruled him out ahead of Sunday's eventual loss to the Texans, but the team didn't provide any specifics behind why he was deactivated. Though Staley didn't go into much detail when talking to the press Monday, his acknowledgement that Williams won't be available for Week 17 confirms that the wideout was placed on the list as an unvaccinated player who tested positive for the virus. As a result, Williams will have to complete a 10-day quarantine dating back to when he first tested positive (Saturday), thereby keeping him out for a second straight game. While Jalen Guyton was also on the reserve/COVID-19 list for the Week 16 loss, Joshua Palmer (five catches for 43 yards and a touchdown on six targets) was one of the main beneficiaries of extra playing time and looks at receiver.

Inefficient with targets
Williams (heel) caught just three of his nine targets for 49 yards in the 34-28 loss to the Chiefs on Thursday.
Impact
Williams briefly left the game in the first quarter after appearing to injure his shoulder on a dropped touchdown pass, but the big-bodied target returned shortly after and looked no worse for the wear. After a scintillating start to the season, the 2017 first-round pick has cratered back down to earth with just one touchdown over the last eight games. That could change with a relatively easy matchup against the Texans on tap for Week 16, a game in which the Chargers need to win in order to stay in the hunt for a possible wild-card berth.

Cleared for Thursday
Williams (heel) doesn't have an injury designation for Thursday's game against the Chiefs, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Meanwhile, fellow wideout Keenan Allen is back from the reserve/COVID-19 list after missing Sunday's 37-21 win over the Giants, and running back Austin Ekeler -- who is questionable with an ankle injury -- also has a shot to play Thursday after limited practices Tuesday and Wednesday. Things have gone better for Williams in recent weeks following a midseason slump, but he's still ranked as a distant No. 2 option in the passing game behind Allen, seeing between five and eight targets in each of the past eight games.

Bumps up the limited Tuesday
Williams (heel) was listed as limited on Tuesday's estimated report.
Impact
After not holding practice Monday, the Chargers ran a walkthrough one day later, so Williams' ability to join his teammates on the field is a positive sign he'll be able to play through a heel injury. In the end, though, his listing -- or lack thereof -- on Wednesday's report will be telling for his ability to suit up Thursday versus the Chiefs. If Williams ultimately is active, he'll be joined by Keenan Allen, who will return from a one-game absence following a bout on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
