The erratic Steelers blew a chance to clinch the AFC North in Cleveland. Week 18 could go either way
The Pittsburgh Steelers will have to regroup after missing out on a golden chance to clinch the AFC North

Minimal production on nine targets
Valdes-Scantling recorded three receptions on nine targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 13-6 loss to the Browns.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling led Pittsburgh in targets in the absence of both DK Metcalf (suspension) and Calvin Austin (hamstring). However, he was unable to get on the same page with Aaron Rodgers, often seemingly a step or more off from where throws arrived. That was particularly noteworthy on the Steelers' final possession, as he was targeted three times unsuccessfully in the end zone to end the game. Even if Austin can return in Week 18 against the Ravens, Valdes-Scantling is likely to see a significant opportunity in a must-win matchup.

Targeted three times Sunday
Valdes-Scantling secured one of three targets for six yards during Sunday's 29-24 win over the Lions.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling reached the end zone during last week's win over the Dolphins, and he nearly caught a 60-yard touchdown in the third quarter of Sunday's Week 16 victory. However, the ball narrowly slipped through his fingers, and he was shaken up on the play. He returned to the game later in the drive but ultimately finished the matchup with an uninspiring stat line. Valdes-Scantling did rank third among Pittsburgh's wide receivers by playing 42 percent of the team's offensive snaps, but he's secured just two of five targets for 25 yards and a touchdown over his first three appearances with the Steelers.

Reaches end zone in primetime
Valdes-Scantling secured his lone target for a 19-yard touchdown during Monday's 28-15 win over the Dolphins.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling made his second appearance with the Steelers on Monday after being signed to the active roster earlier in the day. He was on the field for 52 percent of the team's offensive snaps and reached the end zone early in the third quarter to give Pittsburgh a two-possession lead. Valdes-Scantling will be eligible to suit up in each of the Steelers' final three games of the regular season, but his fantasy upside is limited after being targeted just once in each of his first two appearances with the team.

ROTOWIRE
Being signed to 53-man roster
The Steelers will sign Valdes-Scantling to the active roster for Monday's game against the Dolphins, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling was expected to be elevated from the practice squad for a second time Monday, but Pittsburgh will instead add him to the 53-man squad, making him eligible to suit up for the remainder of the 2025 campaign. He was elevated for the team's Week 14 contest against the Ravens, in which he played 31 percent of offensive snaps and failed to secure his only target. Valdes-Scantling doesn't stand to provide much fantasy value as the team's No. 4 receiver behind DK Metcalf, Adam Thielen and Calvin Austin.

ROTOWIRE
Back with practice squad
Valdes-Scantling reverted to the Steelers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling was elevated to the active roster for the first time with Pittsburgh, failing to catch his only target in Sunday's 27-22 win over the Ravens. The wide receiver logged 16 offensive snaps, which was tied for third most at his position with Calvin Austin behind DK Metcalf (43) and Adam Thielen (25). Valdes-Scantling can be elevated two more times before the team would have to officially sign him to the active roster.

Active to face Ravens
Valdes-Scantling is active for Sunday's game against the Ravens, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling has been on Pittsburgh's practice squad since early November, and he'll make his team debut roughly one month later. He's likely to serve as the team's fourth receiver behind DK Metcalf, Adam Thielen and Calvin Austin, but he should still find himself on the field for plenty of snaps. While he's reunited with Aaron Rodgers, Valdes-Scantling isn't likely to make a fantasy impact.

Impact
Valdes-Scantling could make his debut with Pittsburgh during Sunday's matchup after joining the practice squad early last month. The 31-year-old caught four passes for 40 yards across five appearances with the 49ers earlier in the season and will likely serve as a depth receiver versus Baltimore.

Officially signs with Pittsburgh
The Steelers signed Valdes-Scantling to their practice squad Monday, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling is officially headed to Pittsburgh after having worked out with the team last week. The 31-year-old could provide extra depth at receiver if he's elevated for a game, as the Steelers lack proven talent at the position behind DK Metcalf.

Deal with Pittsburgh on hold
The Steelers are expected to sign Valdes-Scantling following their Week 9 clash against the Colts, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.
Impact
The Steelers hosted Valdes-Scantling for a workout Monday, and while the two signs are working towards a deal, it doesn't appear that will be done prior to Sunday's contest against Indianapolis. The move will reunite Valdes-Scantling with quarterback Aaron Rodgers and add depth to a Steelers wide receiver corps that could be without Scotty Miller (finger) for an extended period time.

Expected to join Pittsburgh
The Steelers intend to sign Valdes-Scantling (calf) after the wide receiver participated in a tryout Monday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling reached an injury settlement with the 49ers on Oct. 15, and it appears the veteran wideout has recovered from his calf injury as he's set to sign with the Steelers. His addition to Pittsburgh's pass-catching corps would reunite him with Aaron Rodgers, with the duo playing together in Green Bay from 2018 to 2021. Over that span, Valdes-Scantling recorded 123 catches (on 247 targets) for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns across 59 regular-season games (39 starts).

Cut loose by SF
Valdes-Scantling (calf) was released from injured reserve with an injury settlement Saturday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling was active for five of San Francisco's first six games of the season, but he landed on injured reserve Friday. It's unclear how long the calf injury will keep him sidelined, but Valdes-Scantling will be free to sign with any team when healthy. He has four receptions on eight targets for 40 yards so far on the campaign.

Moved to IR
Valdes-Scantling (calf) was placed on injured reserve Friday.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling is the latest 49ers wide receiver to get bitten by the injury bug, and his absence will last at least four weeks after his placement on IR. The veteran wideout's first opportunity to return to game action will come Nov. 16 at Arizona.

Suffers calf injury
Valdes-Scantling missed Thursday's practice due to a calf injury, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact
This is a mid-week addition to the 49ers' injury report, and Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports that Valdes-Scantling is expected to be out for a few weeks, which is yet another blow to the receiving corps. All of Jauan Jennings (ankle/rib/shoulder, LP), Ricky Pearsall (knee, DNP), Skyy Moore (ankle, LP) and Jordan Watkins (calf, LP) are dealing with healthy concerns, leaving Kendrick Bourne and Demarcus Robinson as the only health options at the position on the active roster.

Grabs two receptions Sunday
Valdes-Scantling had two receptions on three targets for 22 yards in Sunday's 30-19 loss to the Buccaneers.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling wound up playing 42 snaps (61 percent) on offense while serving as the No. 3 receiver against Tampa Bay. The 30-year-old more than doubled his entire season production with Sunday's output, which highlights his lack of usage through six weeks. Valdes-Scantling will look to stay involved against the Falcons next Sunday, but there is little to see from a fantasy perspective.

ROTOWIRE
Not playing Week 4
Valdes-Scantling (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling saw the field in each of the 49ers' first three games of the season. However, the veteran wide receiver will be in street clothes for Sunday's contest due to the return of Demarcus Robinson from suspension. Valdes-Scantling's next chance to play will be Thursday against the Rams.

First reception with SF
Valdes-Scantling had one reception for nine yards in Sunday's 16-15 win over Arizona.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling finally recorded his first catch as a member of the 49ers after posting bagels in his first two appearances. The 30-year-old was on the field for 17 snaps (26 percent) and finished behind Ricky Pearsall, Kendrick Bourne and Skyy Moore in terms of playing time and production. With San Francisco expecting reinforcements to the receiver room Week 4, Valdes-Scantling may find his marginal role on offense reduced further.

Logs nine snaps on offense
Valdes-Scantling failed to bring in his only target in Sunday's 26-21 win over the Saints.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling was a non-factor on offense for the second consecutive week. The veteran wideout saw his snap count drop to nine (13 percent) following the addition of WR Kendrick Bourne (49 percent). Valdes-Scantling carries no fantasy value heading into a Week 3 matchup against the Cardinals.

ROTOWIRE
Plays role of decoy Sunday
Valdes-Scantling logged 27 snaps on offense and did not receive a target in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Seahawks.
Impact
Valdes-Scantling was promoted from the 49ers' practice squad ahead of a Week 1 matchup against his former club. The 30-year-old wound up finishing fourth in WR snap counts (36 percent), but he was only used as a downfield decoy after receiving no actual targets. Valdes-Scantling is always a threat to break off a big play, but unpredictable usage keeps him off the fantasy radar against the Saints in Week 2.
