Expected to join Pittsburgh The Steelers intend to sign Valdes-Scantling (calf) after the wide receiver participated in a tryout Monday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Valdes-Scantling reached an injury settlement with the 49ers on Oct. 15, and it appears the veteran wideout has recovered from his calf injury as he's set to sign with the Steelers. His addition to Pittsburgh's pass-catching corps would reunite him with Aaron Rodgers, with the duo playing together in Green Bay from 2018 to 2021. Over that span, Valdes-Scantling recorded 123 catches (on 247 targets) for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns across 59 regular-season games (39 starts).

Cut loose by SF Valdes-Scantling (calf) was released from injured reserve with an injury settlement Saturday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Impact Valdes-Scantling was active for five of San Francisco's first six games of the season, but he landed on injured reserve Friday. It's unclear how long the calf injury will keep him sidelined, but Valdes-Scantling will be free to sign with any team when healthy. He has four receptions on eight targets for 40 yards so far on the campaign.

Moved to IR Valdes-Scantling (calf) was placed on injured reserve Friday.

Impact Valdes-Scantling is the latest 49ers wide receiver to get bitten by the injury bug, and his absence will last at least four weeks after his placement on IR. The veteran wideout's first opportunity to return to game action will come Nov. 16 at Arizona.

Suffers calf injury Valdes-Scantling missed Thursday's practice due to a calf injury, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Impact This is a mid-week addition to the 49ers' injury report, and Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports that Valdes-Scantling is expected to be out for a few weeks, which is yet another blow to the receiving corps. All of Jauan Jennings (ankle/rib/shoulder, LP), Ricky Pearsall (knee, DNP), Skyy Moore (ankle, LP) and Jordan Watkins (calf, LP) are dealing with healthy concerns, leaving Kendrick Bourne and Demarcus Robinson as the only health options at the position on the active roster.

Grabs two receptions Sunday Valdes-Scantling had two receptions on three targets for 22 yards in Sunday's 30-19 loss to the Buccaneers.

Impact Valdes-Scantling wound up playing 42 snaps (61 percent) on offense while serving as the No. 3 receiver against Tampa Bay. The 30-year-old more than doubled his entire season production with Sunday's output, which highlights his lack of usage through six weeks. Valdes-Scantling will look to stay involved against the Falcons next Sunday, but there is little to see from a fantasy perspective.

OCTOBER 13, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Not playing Week 4 Valdes-Scantling (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.

Impact Valdes-Scantling saw the field in each of the 49ers' first three games of the season. However, the veteran wide receiver will be in street clothes for Sunday's contest due to the return of Demarcus Robinson from suspension. Valdes-Scantling's next chance to play will be Thursday against the Rams.

First reception with SF Valdes-Scantling had one reception for nine yards in Sunday's 16-15 win over Arizona.

Impact Valdes-Scantling finally recorded his first reception as a member of the 49ers after posting bagels in his first two appearances. The 30-year-old was on the field for 17 snaps (26 percent) and finished behind Ricky Pearsall, Kendrick Bourne and Skyy Moore in terms of playing time and production. With San Francisco expecting reinforcements to the receiver room in Week 4, Valdes-Scantling may find his marginal role on offense reduced further.

Logs nine snaps on offense Valdes-Scantling failed to bring in his only target in Sunday's 26-21 win over the Saints.

Impact Valdes-Scantling was a non-factor on offense for the second consecutive week. The veteran wideout saw his snap count drop to nine (13 percent) following the addition of WR Kendrick Bourne (49 percent). Valdes-Scantling carries no fantasy value heading into a Week 3 matchup against the Cardinals.

Plays role of decoy Sunday Valdes-Scantling logged 27 snaps on offense and did not receive a target in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Seahawks.

Impact Valdes-Scantling was promoted from the 49ers' practice squad ahead of a Week 1 matchup against his former club. The 30-year-old wound up finishing fourth in WR snap counts (36 percent), but he was only used as a downfield decoy after receiving no actual targets. Valdes-Scantling is always a threat to break off a big play, but unpredictable usage keeps him off the fantasy radar against the Saints in Week 2.

Signed to active roster The 49ers signed Valdes-Scantling to the active roster from the practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Impact San Francisco initially inked Valdes-Scantling to the practice squad after he was let go by Seattle amid league-wide roster cuts, but the veteran speedster now joins the 53-man roster in advance of Sunday's road game against his recent team, the Seahawks. It's possible that the 49ers were wary of Valdes-Scantling being poached by another team, were he kept on the practice squad. In any case, now on the active roster, Valdes-Scantling will join Skyy Moore and Jordan Watkins (ankle) as a depth option at wide receiver behind Jauan Jennings (calf) and Ricky Pearsall for Week 1.

Signs to practice squad, not roster The 49ers have signed Valdes-Scantling to the practice squad, not the 53-man roster, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.

Impact Valdes-Scantling could still contribute for San Francisco as early as Week 1 versus the Seahawks, given the team will be without wideouts Brandon Aiyuk (knee/PUP), Demarcus Robinson (suspension) and Jacob Cowing (hamstring/IR), and Jauan Jennings (calf) and Jordan Watkins (ankle) both also appear uncertain. As a member of the practice squad, however, Valdes-Scantling will be eligible to be elevated for a maximum of three games before the 49ers are forced to decide whether to add him to the 53-man roster. Last season, Valdes-Scantling managed to step in and contribute for the Saints with minimal prep time after he was released by the Bills.

Staying in NFC West with SF Valdes-Scantling is signing with the 49ers, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.

Impact Released by Seattle a day earlier, Valdes-Scantling will join one of the few teams that can offer him a chance at Week 1 snaps. San Francisco wideouts Brandon Aiyuk (knee), Demarcus Robinson (suspension) and Jacob Cowing (hamstring) are already ruled out for Week 1, while Jauan Jennings (calf/contract) and Jordan Watkins (ankle) are uncertain. Ricky Pearsall is locked in as one starter, but everything else is up in the air, potentially allowing Valdes-Scantling to come in and contribute without much prep time the way the did in New Orleans after the Bills released him last year.

Released by Seattle The Seahawks released Valdes-Scantling on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Impact Valdes-Scantling was in the thick of it for the Seahawks' WR3 gig behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp, but it appears as if rookie Tory Horton (ankle) has won the job. It's also possible the Seahawks are cutting MVS with the intention of bringing him back once rosters become more settled over the next week.

Released by Seattle The Seahawks released Valdes-Scantling on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Impact Valdes-Scantling was fighting for the Seahawks' WR3 gig behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp, but it appears as though rookie Tory Horton (ankle) has won the job. It's also possible the Seahawks are cutting MVS with the intention of bringing him back once the team's initial 53-man roster is set.

Snares three passes Valdes-Scantling caught all three targets for 33 yards in Saturday's 20-7 preseason loss to the Packers.

Impact The Seahawks sat their starters, so it was interesting to see Valdes-Scantling play most of the first half, although the team likely wanted rookie QB Jalen Milroe to have some stability while playing the full game. These were Valdes-Scantling's first catches of the preseason. He and Tory Horton (ankle) are competing for the No. 3 role behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp.

AUGUST 24, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

No catches during preseason so far Valdes-Scantling wasn't targeted in Friday's 33-16 preseason win over the Chiefs.

Impact Although rookie fifth-round pick Tory Horton (ankle) has been running ahead of Valdes-Scantling during practices, it was the veteran who took the field with starting quarterback Sam Darnold to begin Friday's exhibition contest. Valdes-Scantling's main selling point is his blazing speed, but Horton ran a 4.41 40-yard dash and will continue to push for the No. 3 job. There's probably utility for both players in this offense. On a weekly basis, Valdes-Scantling's fantasy production will be almost impossible to depend on.
