INJURIES

Non-factor in Week 2 win Valdes-Scantling didn't catch his only target in Thursday's 31-10 win over the Dolphins.
Impact Valdes-Scantling has just one catch on the targets through two games with the Bills. The speedster will likely connect with big-armed quarterback Josh Allen for a few big plays this season, but those will likely come sporadically given Valdes-Scantling's lack of a consistent role in Buffalo's offense. Heading into a Week 3 home game against the Jaguars, Valdes-Scantling is fifth among Bills wide receivers in targets behind Khalil Shakir (eight), Keon Coleman (six), Curtis Samuel (four) and Mack Hollins (four).

Targeted twice in win Valdes-Scantling reeled in one of his two targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 34-28 win over the Cardinals.
Impact Valdes-Scantling played just 13 of the Bills' 62 offensive snaps Sunday, the fewest of any Buffalo wideout. Buried on the depth chart behind Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, Mack Hollins and Curtis Samuel, the 29-year-old wideout will likely struggle to see enough consistent playing time to sustain fantasy relevance. Nonetheless, Valdes-Scantling will have his next opportunity to produce in what projects to be a shootout between Buffalo and Miami in Week 2.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Healthy to kick off regular season Valdes-Scantling (neck) is not listed on Wednesday's injury report and does not carry any injury designation for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Cardinals.
Impact Valdes-Scantling is fully recovered after having suffered a neck injury Aug. 17 in preseason action versus the Steelers. Full health doesn't guarantee that the veteran deep threat will be active Week 1 versus Arizona, though, as all of Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins are healthy and seem entrenched above him on the depth chart. If he suits up Sunday, Valdes-Scantling only figures to contribute in a reserve role on offense.
SEPTEMBER 4, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Practicing in regular jersey Valdes-Scantling (neck) participated in the portion of practice available to the media Wednesday, Sal Capaccio of WGR 550 Radio reports.
Impact Valdes-Scantling suffered a neck injury in a preseason game Aug. 17 against the Steelers, but he has made progress in his recovery. Every member of Buffalo's recently finalized 53-man roster participated in some capacity, and Valdes-Scantling wasn't among the three players donning red non-contact jerseys. The veteran deep threat appears to be on pace to suit up Week 1 against the Cardinals, but it will be worth monitoring whether Valdes-Scantling's name pops up on the injury reports that Buffalo will begin publishing on game week.
AUGUST 28, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Makes it past cuts Valdes-Scantling (neck) has made the initial 52-man roster, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
Impact MVS was no lock to make it, but coach Sean McDermott expressed optimism last week that the veteran has a good chance of being ready for Week 1, and when the Bills made their cutdown decisions there was a need for speed on the roster. Buffalo has been known to scour the free-agent wire pretty hard, so Valdes-Scantling is no lock to be in uniform for Week 1 against the Cardinals, and even if he does he's probably fifth on the depth chart to start the season. But it's at least worth noting that there is some fun to be had in this offense given his sheer speed and Josh Allen's ability to throw it most of the way down the field.

Could Samuel and Valdes-Scantling Be Ready for Week 1? Could Bills Injured WRs Curtis Samuel and Marquez Valdes-Scantling Be Ready for Week 1?
AUGUST 26, 2024 • KANSASCITY.COM
May be ready for Week 1 When asked about the chances of Valdes-Scantling (neck) and Curtis Samuel (turf toe) playing in Week 1, coach Sean McDermott expressed a degree of optimism, Alec White of the Bills...
Impact "I feel like those two, from what I've heard so far, have a real good chance of being back, just not committing to it yet," McDermott noted of Valdes-Scantling and Samuel. Once available, Valdes-Scantling will look to solidify his standing in a Buffalo WR corps that also includes Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Samuel, Mack Hollins and KJ Hamler.

Out multiple weeks Valdes-Scantling (neck) is expected to miss multiple weeks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact With Valdes-Scantling's Week 1 status now unclear and Curtis Samuel (turf toe) week-to week, the Bills' depth at wideout ahead of the regular season is being taxed. For now, Buffalo's top healthy options at the position are Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman, but it's plausible that the team will look to bolster the ranks in the coming days.

X-rays return negative Valdes-Scantling had X-rays on his neck that came back negative, and he's been diagnosed with a neck sprain, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Impact Valdes-Scantling was carted from the sideline to the locker room due to the neck injury during Saturday's preseason game against Pittsburgh, so his diagnosis is positive news in that context. It's uncertain whether the veteran wideout will be able to play in Buffalo's final preseason contest against Carolina on Saturday, but it looks like the injury won't sideline him long-term. That said, Valdes-Scantling hasn't had a great camp, so it's not a guarantee that he'll end up on the 53-man roster.
AUGUST 18, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Ruled out Saturday Valdes-Scantling (neck) won't return to Saturday's preseason contest at Pittsburgh.
Impact Valdes-Scantling had his neck stabilized after a catch in the second quarter and eventually was carted to the locker room. Considering he's lagged behind in the WR competition in training camp and now is dealing with a health concern, he could be in danger of not making the Bills' initial roster after cut-down day Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Sustains neck injury Valdes-Scantling suffered a neck injury during Saturday's preseason game in Pittsburgh.
Impact Valdes-Scantling remained on the field after a second-quarter catch and even had his neck stabilized by trainers, but he eventually sat up and went to the sideline tent before being carted to the locker room. With his night almost certainly over, his upcoming prognosis may be a determining factor to whether or not he's able to earn a roster spot on the Bills on cut-down day (Tuesday, Aug. 27).
AUGUST 18, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Carted to locker room Valdes-Scantling (undisclosed) needed a cart to go to the locker room during Saturday's game at Pittsburgh, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports.
Impact After making a catch in the second quarter, Valdes-Scantling remained on the field for a spell and even had his neck stabilized, but he eventually was able to sit up and make his way to the sideline tent with assistance from team trainers. The nature of the injury isn't known, but it wouldn't surprise if his night is over considering it's exhibition season.

On the roster bubble? Valdes-Scantling's first-team reps have dwindled amidst a slow start to training camp, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.
Impact Chase Claypool's absence due to a toe injury might've seemed like an opportunity for Valdes-Scantling to get more reps and deep targets, but Buscaglia notes that the former Packer/Chief has mostly been working with backups and not making any noise. Valdes-Scantling could end up on the roster bubble, even though his $1.125 million base salary is guaranteed and the Bills paid him a $1.125 million signing bonus, i.e., they're paying him $2.25 million no matter what.
