Impact Hyde has vultured 21 touches and one red-zone rush through three games, reps that will now be available for Robinson and potentially special teamer Dare Ogunbowale. For the season, Robinson has averaged 14.3 touches for 84 total yards per game while scoring one touchdown. With that baseline and his primary competition for snaps out of the picture Thursday, he could be in line for the type of usage he experienced as an undrafted rookie last year (20.6 touches per outing).

Impact The Jaguars had an 83-yard drive that resulted in a touchdown to open the game, but the offense managed only 106 yards the rest of the day. Robinson was significantly more involved compared to Week 1 -- when he registered only eight touches -- but his overall role in the offense was still fairly limited. Rookie QB Trevor Lawrence has endured his share of struggles early on, and the running game has taken a backseat in the gameplan. No. 2 tailback Carlos Hyde had only two carries and two targets Sunday, leaving Robinson entrenched in the starting role, though his outlook has certainly diminished with only 16 carries for 72 yards and six receptions for 46 yards with zero scores through two games.

He did have a solid role as a receiver, one of the benefits of what appears to still be a three-down role going into his second season. The extremely modest number of carries is naturally an outlier dictated by unique Week 1 circumstances, and Robinson will therefore look to have a much busier afternoon at home against the Broncos in Week 2.

Impact The second-year back was only on the field for the Jaguars' first two series. Robinson is set to handle lead duties once again with Travis Etienne (foot) out for the season, and while the offense will likely look very different with Trevor Lawrence under center and Urban Meyer running the show, Robinson's three-down skill set and powerful running style should result in significant touch volume once again, even if Carlos Hyde cuts into his action on early downs.

Impact Robinson's fantasy stock tumbled when the Jaguars used a first-round pick on a running back despite finding gold in the UDFA pot the previous offseason. The team had even signed Carlos Hyde in March to help with backfield depth, perhaps hinting that Robinson would be spelled on early downs rather than late ones most of the time. But with Etienne now out of the 2021 picture, Robinson is the best pass-catching back on the roster, and also the preeminent runner. That doesn't mean he'll match last year's average of 20.6 touches per game, but it's at least within the realistic range of possibilities now that he's sharing snaps with only Hyde instead of Etienne and Hyde. Robinson figures to get the start and plenty of touches Week 1 at Houston.

Impact The report notes that Etienne's left foot will require further testing, at which time there should be added clarity with regard to how much time he might miss. With the Jaguars' regular-season slate opening Sept. 12, the rookie back's Week 1 status is unclear at this stage. In the event that Etienne is sidelined early on in the 2021 campaign, more touches would be available for Robinson, particularly targets, while Carlos Hyde could also pick up some extra carries.

Impact Robinson once again started at tailback, and although he wasn't particularly productive, neither were Carlos Hyde nor Travis Etienne. In fact, Etienne was forced out with a foot injury, raising some uncertainty over his status at the moment. As things stand, Robinson appears to be in a decent position to be named Jacksonville's starter, but the Jags' backfield situation could be one to monitor until the pecking order is established.

Impact Coach Urban Meyer indicated post-draft he envisioned Robinson and Hyde as the "1-2 punch" with Travis Etienne as the third-down back, and the opening depth chart reflects those comments from the spring. Despite the current order, Etienne is the clear competition for backfield touches as a rookie first-round pick with explosive talent, and he figures to have a significant role in the offense. It should only be a matter of time before Hyde drops down the depth chart, but Robinson could easily open the season as the starter after totaling 1,414 scrimmage yards as a rookie last year, though he'll have a vastly different workload in 2021 given the new-look offense.
